This past weekend basketball star Donovan Mitchell debuted his signature adidas D.O.N. Issue #5 shoe in the form of cleats at the MLB 2023 All-Star Celebrity Game live from T-Mobile Park in Seattle. Both adidas and the NBA shooting guard made the big announcement prior to the game via Instagram.
Sporting a turquoise/black/red colorway the sneaker features a sock liner on the inside while the outside displays black flexible molding on the upper as well as the heel. The legendary adidas three-stripes starts mid shoe over the molding extending to the undersole. Hints of red can be seen on the lace eyelets and at the shoe bottom.
It might not have been by coincidence that Mitchell chose to reveal his upcoming shoe via the baseball diamond and not the basketball court. Mitchell spent his childhood around Major League Baseball locker rooms. His father Donovan Sr. served as a director of player relations for the New York Mets, and before that a former Minor League Baseball player.
Donovan’s signature shoe line was launched in 2019, and quickly became one of adidas top selling models with the releasing of the adidas D.O.N. #s 1-4. The adidas D.O.N. Issue #5 is expected to be released later this year in the fall. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates.
